Ingredients

For 6 Serving(s)

Base

2 tbsp butter, unsalted
454 g ground turkey (or beef, or pork, or a mix)
1/4 tsp black pepper, ground
1 tsp salt
400 g macaroni (elbow) noodles, uncooked
2 cups milk (preferably whole)
1 1/4 cup warm water
1/4 tsp dry mustard
1/4 tsp paprika
1 tbsp garlic scape pesto (or 1 clove garlic finely chopped)
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, sharp
3/4 cup american cheese, shredded
1/4 cup gluten free bread crumbs finely
1/4 tsp garlic scape powder, or garlic powder

Skillet Pasta Bake - The Hamburger Helper Directions

Begin by melting the butter in the pan.  Then cook off your ground meat stirring to allow the meat to break up entirely.  Add half of the salt once the meat begins to brown.  Add the red wine.  Once the meat is nearly cooked proceed to the next step.

Pre-heat your oven on broil and place the oven rack 3-4 inches (7.5-10cm) from the heat.  Reduce the heat on the stove to medium and stir in the remaining ingredients (except for the cheese and bread crumbs) and give everything a really good stir to allow it all to become blended well.  Allow the mixture to return to a boil and give it one more stir and cover for 5-7 minutes (or until the pasta is cooked).

Remove from heat and give everything a stir.  Stir in most of the cheese and stir until it melts and becomes stringy.  Then smooth the surface of the pasta and sprinkle the bread crumbs evenly over the top and finish with the rest of the cheese.

Put it into the oven and broil for 1-2 minutes or until the bread crumbs are browned and the cheese has melted.  Garnish with some green onions or parsley and serve immediately.
